In accordance with the policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain is registered with must be valid and up to date at all times. Moreover, this information is openly visible on WHOIS lookup web sites and while this may not be a problem for organizations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because everybody can see their names and their personal street and email addresses, particularly in an age when identity fraud is not that rare. Because of this, domain registrars have introduced a service that hides the details of their clients without modifying them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. In case it’s enabled, people will see the details of the domain registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they perform a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain name extensions, but it is still impossible to conceal your private information with certain country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Web Hosting

If you’ve ordered a Linux web hosting service from our company and you’ve registered one or more domain names under your account, you will be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of them without effort and to keep your personal information secure. Of course, this will be possible only with the TLD extensions that support this service. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you’ll find an “Whois Privacy Protection” button next to each of your domain names. Its color will let you know whether a domain name is protected or not and in the second case, you can enable Whois Privacy Protection with only several clicks of the mouse. In this way, you can protect your personal details even if you haven’t added the service during the signup process. You will be able to renew or to deactivate the Whois Privacy Protection service for any of your domain names just as easily.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Enabling Whois Privacy Protection for any domain is incredibly easy if you have a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain name is registered with us, it will be listed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is included with each semi-dedicated server plan. In case a given generic or country-specific top-level domain name supports Whois Privacy Protection, you will see a small symbol on the right-hand side of that domain. To enable the service, you will need to click on it. In the same fashion, you can also renew or disable the service. You can activate Whois Privacy Protection for a domain name during the account order procedure too, but since the service is optional, we will offer you the possibility to add it to any of your domains at a later point in time if you think things over and decide to conceal your private information from the public eye after you have already ordered the semi-dedicated account.
