When you add a domain as hosted in some account, you normally set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular company. On their end, three records are set up automatically when the domain name is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain name where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that manages the e-mails for that specific Internet domain. The website and the email hosting are usually considered to be one thing, while they are in fact two different services. Having different records for them will permit you to have them with different companies if you'd like. As an example, some new service provider can have outstanding uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the Internet domain to the first and MX records to have the emails with the latter, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an email - in any case, the service provider whose name servers are used for the domain name will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed site or your email will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting account from our company and you would like to point either your website or your emails to a different company, it'll take you literally simply 2 clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two, it is not going to take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of any record that you change or create won't take more than several hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will remain active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with our semi-dedicated services, will allow you to see the A and MX records for each of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with 100 % control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are moving your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
